JAMES & KAILIA BINMORE

SOUTH AFRICA

Good morning, afternoon, evening or night! (thanks for stopping by)

By now we hope you’ve read the title.

So…

First, who are we? Who are the Binmores?

We are a family who is all in for Jesus, we have the joy of partnering with Him in reconciling the world to Himself, so that He may be all in all (2 Cor 5:19, 1 Cor 15:28).

How? By creating a space where people can grow, flourish and multiply in deep union with Him.

Why?Without Jesus and His community you wouldn’t be reading this today, the people we are now wouldn’t exist.

We were both lost and very broken and Jesus changed everything. He gave us communities to heal and find a “home” in, they were places of safety where we could begin to grow and dream. Ever since we have sought to do the same for others.

Jesus has and is still reconciling us to Himself (we’re on a journey).

But now, whilst he continues to reconcile us, we get to respond and join him in his mission to reconcile the whole world.

We have first-hand experienced how King Jesus changes everything.

We believe it’s time the world experiences this too.

How about we give you some of our context:

We as "FFSA"

Let us properly introduce Youth With a Mission Fire & Fragrance South Africa (YWAM FFSA).

We are part of a big global missionary family called YWAM (an organisation that has been going for 60+ years).

Within that family, we are a part of a smaller family unit called Fire & Fragrance with its more specific priorities and values.

Within that family unit we have a local expression of YWAM and Fire & Fragrance called YWAM Fire & Fragrance South Africa.

We as Fire & Fragrance South Africa consider ourselves like a building project.

*Picture us building a big home/ space for God to move in and through.*

This project we are calling building “infrastructure for revival”. You can also call it building His Kingdom.

This is our goal as a community, to be a vessel through which God can bless and transform our neighbourhood (Potchefstroom), our country (South Africa) and the whole of Africa.

Within this big building project, there are specific aspects, or “rooms”, that we focus on. We are building rooms in our house with specific goals. These rooms and goals are:

  • Building People

We run training schools that disciple and equip people:

  • Discipleship Training Schools (DTS) (This is our foundational YWAM school, where people deepen their relationship with God, grow in their identity in Christ, and learn how to serve in the Great Commission, whether they end up in missions or not)

  • Discipleship Bible School (DBS) (A three month intensive Bible training)

  • School of Biblical Studies (SBS) (A nine month Bible training that goes deeper into each book of the Bible)

  • Redwoods Christian Academy (This is our Preschool and slowly growing Primary School)

  • and training in lots of other areas too!

  • Building Momentum

"Building more and building better: for more impact and transformation."

This is about seeing more “fruit” and people coming to know Jesus.

  • The Send (An evangelistic and mobilising event)

  • Serving in High Schools, Universities, Living Rooms and Cities (HULC) (This is a ministry that goes all across South Africa, spreading the gospel and empowering believers)

  • Project 54 (travelling to the 54 countries in Africa, sharing the gospel, giving out Bibles in local languages and providing Bible training)

  • God Story DTS (This is focused on oral cultures, where we disciple people through the story of the Bible, orally taking them through the whole Bible narrative, teaching them about God and his Kingdom)

  • Building Bridges

"Pursuing unity across areas of division for the glory of God."

This is where we are seeking to work with and collaborate with as many people as possible, pursuing unity so that we can build more and better.

  • End Bible Poverty Now (EBPN) (This is about Bible translation, so every language on earth would have access to the Word of God! We partner with Wycliffe and other translation organisations to see the Bible translated into the Sub-Saharan languages in Africa)

  • High Schools, Universities, Living Rooms and Cities (HULC)

  • Project 54 / God Story DTS

  • Education for Life (This is a Biblical-based Teacher Training that we provide throughout Africa)

  • Building Sound

"Making a sound that pleases God, partners with Him and proclaims who He is."

  • Prayer and Worship Team

  • Media Team

  • End Bible Poverty Now Team

  • Building Stories

"Telling and retelling the stories of God, what he Has done, is doing and will do."

  • Media Team

  • EBPN Team

  • God Story DTS

  • Building Altars

"Making a place He can inhabit."

  • Prayer and Worship

  • Mercy Ministries (We have various mercy ministries: serving in Hospitals and Old Age Homes, discipling people in a local Rehab, sharing the gospel with people in prostitution and walking with them through rehabilitation)

  • Building Infrastructure

"Systems and platforms that serve His kingdom and glorify Him."

  • Communications Team

  • Operations Team

  • Finance Team

  • HULC

  • The Send

  • Project 54

  • Building Dignity

To people and missions.

  • Local Outreach and Evangelism

  • Old Age home

  • Rehab

  • Hospitals

  • Reaching out to Prostitutes and Gangsters

  • Other Mercy Ministries

(this isn't exhaustive)

Within our big building project we have 6 pillars we are building upon that keep the structural integrity of our “house”/ ministry. We don’t stray away from prioritising and doing these things (else the house would fall).

The 6 pillars are:

  • Prayer and Worship

  • Evangelism

  • Training

  • Media

  • Ending Bible Poverty Now

  • Mercy Ministries

Having these individual rooms and pillars all working together in our structure allows us to build a home that is fit for purpose. To be a house/ space that God can move in and through.

Our community has a strong sense of responsibility to see South Africa and Africa transformed. Africa has a beautifully diverse culture and rich history and we want to see it unified and redeemed into the fullness of God’s design.

To do that we believe God would need to transform all parts (or spheres) of society: Family, Religion, Education, Government, Media, Arts and Entertainment, and Business.

So we want to impact all of those areas.

Our community is made up of a diverse group of teams and individuals, all with different skills, passions and goals. Yet, our teams and different ministries aim to work in complete unity to see this society-wide transformation actually happen.

And, that’s our building project (in a nutshell).

Just to be clear:

We acknowledge we are not responsible/ the source/ the producer of “revival”. Our responsibility is to build something (an infrastructure) that God can choose to use and bless our nation and the nations through.

We define “revival” as God bringing dead things to life, whether it’s individuals, neighbourhoods or whole cultures. It’s traditionally marked with repentance, surrender and giving God glory. Revival is not about seeking a temporary shift, but something that results in lasting change in peoples lives and in society.

We as "the Binmores"

Like our community, we (the Binmores) value all of our 6 pillars, and we seek to build God’s Kingdom in all of its different facets.

Where you will mainly find us though is in the world of Training, “building people and bridges”.

I (James) am involved mostly with Bible Training and I am currently a student of our new 9-month school, the School of Biblical Studies (SBS). This is 9 months where I will deeply study the Bible. I am and hope to continue to learn so much about God through His Word and also how to disciple others through the Word. I intend to staff future SBS schools beginning in 2026, after completing it this year! We believe the Bible is the foundation of any kind of discipleship and mission work. So, studying it is a blessing and eventually teaching it would be a real honour for me.

I (Kailia) am involved with both the preschool and the wider ministry of education. I am currently helping with developing curriculum and policies for our FFSA School. I am aiming to help shape the hearts, minds and worldviews of the little ones in our FFSA community and wider Potchefstroom. In this, I seek to see South Africa and Africa’s systems of education being rooted in the Bible and pointing children and families to Jesus. Our education team as a whole is working towards everyone in Africa having access to biblical education.

We believe by “building people and bridges” we are serving what God is doing in the big picture of our community, with South Africa and Africa. We are working so that the responsibility of “missions” doesn’t end with us but is passed on (multiplied) and taken hold of with conviction, competence and joy.

We believe that Biblical discipleship:

  • sustains missions.

  • allows all nations and generations to grow and flourish.

  • multiplies missions

  • and lastly, will eventually end the need for missions.

"Missions exists because worship does not." - John Piper

We have seen that God’s Kingdom works through relationship. He works in and through people.

So, it is our conviction that our role in missions is to be a family that creates space for people (individuals and communities) to grow, flourish and multiply with God. This is through Bible training and discipleship, and developing Biblical education. The end goal is a world reconciled to Christ, that He may be all in all.

We see it as a massive privilege to serve here with this community. To be a part of missions and what God is doing here in South Africa and Africa.

Thank you, for your partnership with us and with what God is doing.

----------

Now, that was a lot, we know, we aim to expand on some of this over the coming year.

We hope you have a better (bigger) picture of who we are and what we are doing here in South Africa. Please stick around for more of the specifics and the nitty gritty, and as always if you have any questions please ask away.
